The bankruptcy is over, the restructuring is underway, dealers are peeved, and the New General Motors is born. Free of much of its debt obligations, with slightly less insane labor contracts that give it a more competitive cost structure, and a host of other changes have been made to make the General competitive. On the other hand, one quick look at the management and it’s clear that the new boss looks a lot like the old one.
Most importantly, GM’s cars are better than ever, but convincing people remains a monumental task for GM’s marketing and PR departments. So I got curious: Are you ready to give GM a shot? Say yay or nay below, and explain yourself in the comments!

Well, I guess I’m willing to give anybody a chance, as long as that doesn’t mean I must pledge to buy one of their cars in the near future. I wish you’d had a third choice somewhere in the middle because I’ve been terribly disappointed in everything the new administration has done or tried to do and failed, and I still have a problem with the idea of GM being run by the government and operated by the greedy unions that got it in trouble in the first place. But I’ll be a sideline observer and see how it goes. It’s sure a different America than what I’m used to, though! Who’d of ever thunk it??
Always willing to give them another chance, especially since they have shown some promising change. BUT, the G8 issue around using it or not and the two top officials telling different stories screams that they are still running the corp. the same way they always have which means failure looms!!
Not going to give them a chance. In fact, I plan on making sure none of my friends, family, or neighbors even consider a GM product for a good long time.
They were a crap car company before this and the only thing they’ve learned from all that’s gone on in the last year is that Uncle Sam will bail them out in the absence of intelligent management.
What has changed since last fall? They shelved brands, closed plants, laid off tens of thousands, and filed bankruptcy. And they got billions to do it. Now they retain a clueless member of the old GM as their leader and they’re still in bed with the unions.
Nothing substantial has changed and I will not support that in any way.
I did give GM a chance; I just bought a Pontiac G5. It clearly was the best car for the money. Fit and finish looked fine, lots of power if you need it, great fuel economy if you don’t. Also, it looks good with a classic wedge shape (unlike comparable cars). Would I have bought it at full MSRP? No, but I wouldn’t have bought any car in that class at that price – I would have stayed with my beloved Geo Tracker.
